Research at the Marine Ecology and Biodiversity Section involves the following major areas:
Fish ecology, biodiversity and biogeography
Cephalopod biology and ecology
Marine mammal conservation, including assessment and regulation of whale watching activities
Coastal marine conservation and implementation of marine protected areas
Behavioural ecology of fishes
Biogeography, genetics and conservation of marine birds
Bio-accumulation of heavy metals in the marine environment
Ecology, migration and genetics of Atlantic sea turtles
Ecology and biochemistry of hydrothermal vents.
