Marine Ecology and Biodiversity Section (MEBS)

Research at the Marine Ecology and Biodiversity Section involves the following major areas:

  • Fish ecology, biodiversity and biogeography
  • Cephalopod biology and ecology
  • Marine mammal conservation, including assessment and regulation of whale watching activities
  • Coastal marine conservation and implementation of marine protected areas
  • Behavioural ecology of fishes
  • Biogeography, genetics and conservation of marine birds
  • Bio-accumulation of heavy metals in the marine environment
  • Ecology, migration and genetics of Atlantic sea turtles
  • Ecology and biochemistry of hydrothermal vents.
